SECTION A


Topic:
Comparative Study of BRICS Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (or 3 -5 other countries)

Subject Skills: Observation, Inquiry, Testing and Applying Knowledge, Presenting Data, making Comparisons, using maps.

Keys Skills: Learning, Teamwork, Coping with problems, Use of IT, Use of English, Use of Maths

Curriculum Aims: To develop key geography skills of observation, inquiry, testing and applying knowledge, presenting data, making comparisons, using maps. To acquire knowledge and understanding of the location and culture of these countries.

Objectives: Complete Section A Challenges 1, 2, 3, and 4 to gain one full ASDAN Credit.

Challenge 1. Produce a poster or collage or diagram to show what you already know and think about these countries. Use words, pictures, drawings, text to display your ideas.

Challenge 2. Create an annotated display illustrating some of the things that appear to be happening in those countries (Social, Cultural, Political, Sport). Discuss why news and media sources cannot always provide a completely accurate picture of what goes on in a country.

Challenge 3. Present facts for each country focusing on the differences and what makes each one distinctive

Challenge 4. Produce an advert (e.g. Poster, Blog, Video) that promotes on of the countries as a holiday destination.

Assessment (Formative): Student progress and attainment is recorded on an individual pupil’s progress and achievement sheet. Production of a portfolio of work as the outcome of at least 10 hours work.
