Sport & Leisure

Curriculum Aims: To develop key geography skills of observation, inquiry, testing and applying knowledge, presenting data, making comparisons, using maps. To acquire knowledge and understanding of the location and culture of these countries.

Objectives: Complete Section A Challenges 1, 3, 5, and 7 to gain one full ASDAN Credit.

Challenge 1. Your Favourite Sports Club or Band are playing in a location in Europe. Find out all the different ways to travel to the location and the costs, show which way is quickest, cheapest and shortest. Explain which route you would take in the following situations a) if you were travelling in a group of four with two adults and two teenage children b) if you were travelling with two adults of pensionable age.

Challenge 3. Keep a log of the leisure activities you do over a week. Work out the total amount of time you spend on each activity and display this so you can compare it with others in your group. Include a definition of the word “Leisure”.

Challenge 5. Choose a UK-based sports team or band that includes people born in another country. Use a map to show the country of origin for each member and explain reasons why you think moved to the UK. Find out the rules regarding Non-UK nationals working in their chosen field that are different to people working in another field. Display your findings as either a blog or vlog.

Challenge 7. Use a map to create a display/collage of that shows places you can take part in sport in your local area. Show the area’s best served with sports facilities and those that are least served. Make suggestions how the sports facilities could be improved.

Assessment (Formative): Student progress and attainment is recorded on an individual pupil’s progress and achievement sheet. Production of a portfolio of work as the outcome of at least 10 hours work.
